Bulletin 14 July 2019

Sunday 14th July 2019

Ping, Ding, Dong, Alerts, Notifications, Messages and Emails. And not to mention people texting even when out for a meal together! There is no such thing as quiet any more. We are saturated with noise. And when we do have a few minutes to ourselves we are planning what we will do next!!! Silence is an experience of the past. Is it any wonder we find it almost impossible to hear / obey the voice of the Lord (1st Reading) The art of careful listening is not easy. It takes discipline and time and patience. Genuine listening means being truly interested in what the other person has to share. Listening to the story of the Good Samaritan – did I hear the conversation? Did I hear the challenge? Did I hear Jesus asking me to “take pity?” Or did I allow myself to be distracted by another “Ping!”Prayer for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day:

PRAYER FOR THE ELDERLY

Gracious God, we ask you to bless especially your children who have grown old. When they can no longer care for themselves, send them loving caretakers who appreciate their wisdom and the richness of their experience. Send your angels to keep them safe as long as they live and to lead them home to you when their work is done. Bless the families of the elderly with insight and good judgment. Send your Holy Spirit to help them make wise decisions and grant them the patience to care for those who once cared for them.  We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
